About Sandpipers Schoolhouse Program

3-5 year-olds

Sandpipers School is the first school in Grenada to use a research based balanced curriculum compromised of Montessori and traditional methodologies. The academic program includes Montessori morning work periods using manipulatives and “hand on learning”. The afternoon work period utlizies workbooks and worksheets to further apply the concepts.  In addition to meeting  international standards for math, literacy and cultural studies. our teachers also focus on individual child development and social-emotional development.

Science has shown us that every child learns differently. We are thankful to have a large international student population and a strong foundation of Grenadian children. Many of our international students leave the islands to continue their academic journeys at schools all over the world. Additionally, for our Grenadian children, focusing on only one teaching method, does not provide for an inclusive school environment. We want to prepare our students for life no matter where they live. Sandpipers students are introduced to the Montessori materials in a systematic way and then allowed to use workbooks and worksheets, from our standards-based curriculum to build on each skill in a traditional approach. Before you know it, you have a confident child who loves learning. And what could be more rewarding than that?

Geography and Culture

Montessori Geography & Culture.

In the 3 to 6 classroom, Montessori teachers use the continent maps and globes as well as atlases and pictures and books for their geography and cultural lessons.

Montessori geography provides young children with a unique opportunity, the early exposure to the concept that children around the word are different but the same. A Montessori teacher is aware of the importance of having multicultural books and posters in the classroom. Cultural celebrations are a regular part of the Montessori classroom. Diwali, Chinese New Year, Hanukkah, Eid, Ramadan, and other celebrations are honoured.
